Kathy Welsh Smith


After a long career in collegiate campus ministry, I made the leap to working in the church in 2017. I most recently served as the Director of Discipleship at Central Presbyterian. I am now a candidate for Minister of Word and Sacrament and a recent graduate of United Seminary, Twin Cities. My spouse, Rob, works at Loyola University, and together we are the parents of two adult children and the grandparents of the 3 (objectively!) cutest grandsons in the world.

My approach to ministry is to be connectional and relational. As a small church pastor, I will:

  • Connect deeply with congregants, in times of illness and grief and in ordinary life and work

  • Preach sermons that connect Scripture to our lives and circumstances today

  • Build and lead teams by consensus

  • Know our neighbors: those who share our building and those in the surrounding community (homes and businesses)
